Hello Everyone,
Quick Marathon update:
I will not be racing the end of this month. I have MTTS (shin splints) and my doctor advised I don’t run for a 4-6 weeks. I was going to just do the half marathon (13.1miles), but my doctor said I could end up with stress fractures and then won’t be able to do any activity. The doctor said that the training (26 mile sin 3 months) was very aggressive and she suggests I train more slowly. So, they transfered my fundraising to a Woman’s Marathon in November. I’m on rest, no running.. but I can do the eliptical and light weights.. for 4-6 weeks. Then I have to ease back into training. I’m bummed, but I’m going to listen to my body and not injure myself.
To date I have raised $1520!! Thank you for all your support.
Love,
Amanda

Im sorry to hear that.
Was the training too intense?
I know 3 folks at work that have run marathons (2 ran the NYC and 1 ran the Chicago)– and they trained doing something like 10 weeks — NEVER running 26 miles until the day of.
May be you trained too intensively???
Sounds painful – Im sorry to hear about it. Best not to have permanent damage. What are shin splints?
Hope you can run in Nov.

Yes, the training was too intense. You never run the 26 until the day of. The highest most trianing programs go is 22miles, with the theory adrenaline will take you the rest of the way. 10 weeks of training is unheard of! whoah!! Are they already extremly fit and we runners before? The most I had ever run was 6 miles before my training. We were increasing our miles by 2-3 every week. Next time around i’ll do 1 mile increases. Sounds wussy, but a whole extra mile is alot. I was hanging alright until we starting to get to 15 miles. To jump from 11-15 is hard, and then one week later to go to 18 extremely hard. I start running again in 2 weeks.
