The practice of fasting during Lent helps us
to become more aware of ourselves,
and more aware of the needs of those who are poor.
FAST today in solidarity with those that are hungry.
GIVE the money you saved fasting to Operation Rice Bowl or other worthy cause.
NOTE:
Operation Rice Bowl distributes little cardboard boxes or "bowls"
through local churches like St Luke's Parish in Westborough.
You can accomplish the same principle with an empty jar with a cap
or a small box or bag. You can place in it pennies, quarters or dollars.
The point being to collect what you can and donate it to a worthy cause.
A little goes a long way.
For example, if all 14,000+ people in Westborough gave just 1 cent a day for each of
the 40 days of lent that would amount to 560,000 pennies or $5,600.00.
If everyone in the US would do the same (1 penny a day during Lent)
we would collect over $80,000,000.00
Obviuously, that's very unlikely to happen...
But whatever we can give can make a large difference
to others an to ourselves...
For in helping others, we often end up helping ourselves...
