Lent
This is a separate site in "Beta"(test) mode
Lent is 40 days long. It starts on Ash Wednesday (this year is on Feb 9th)
and it ends on Easter Sunday (March 27).

There are three things we should practice during Lent.  Three things associated
with the church for literally thousands of years:

1- Prayer. Whichever way we pray, pray more than ever.
Focus on listening to what God may have to say,
rather that what we say.  To help us accomplish this,
we need to clear our minds, clear ourselves
of all the clutter, of all the noise inside.

2- Fasting.  We are fortunate enough to eat what we want
when we want it and as much as we want to. During this time
consider how much surplus we consume daily while others go hungry.
During Lent we can consume less and think about this big difference in supply
between ourselves and those less fortunate.
Maybe some of this surplus can be used to share with others.

3- Sharing.  This is a good time to share ourselves, our service,
our wealth with others. No matter how little we may have, think
of the millions that have so much less us... often nothing or next to nothing at all.
"Give alms" during Lent.

This year by a strange coincidence Ash Wednesday,
(the beginning of Lent)  occurs on the same day (Feb 9th, 2005) as the Chinese New Year.
To borrow from an old chinese proverb, "A long journey starts with a very small step."
We don't have to save all the world, feed all the world, become saints overnight.
We could start with a very small step on each of these areas.
And each day of this 40 day period we have a chance to take a little baby step forward.

Maybe some of the readings in this site ("LENT") and its parent site (peaceful words.com)
can help us clean out the clutter.
